New York Cup cakes for my birthday

I had a New York City themed birthday party this pass May. We had an awesome dinner on the cold African winter evening at a restaurant named Grand Central in Johannesburg. As a little treat to all my friends I made some New York themed cupcakes.

We placed edible bracelet sweets around the cupcakes.

Custom made cup cakes

I always admired the cup cakes made by the professionals where they cover the cupcake with fondant. My opinion was that it will be too pretty to gobble down, or it would be too sweet to eat. I decided to give it a try and pleasantly surprised. I made chocolate cupcakes and coated them with some ganache. I placed in the freezer for around an hour for them to set. Method: Roll fondant out on powdered surface. Cut with a scone cutter, either the smooth or frilled edge. I used the frilled edge in these. Lift and place on ganache coated cupcake. Smooth the fondant over with your fingers so it is flush against the ganache. I used all the little fondant art I made to top it off. White Chocolate Frosted Vanilla Yummies

White Chocolate frosted Vanilla Yummies I wanted to make some yummy fun vanilla cup cakes as a treat for my dad. So I followed the following recipe: 1 cup cake flour 1/2 cup sugar 1 teaspoon baking powder pinch of salt two eggs 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1 teaspoon vanilla essence Blend all ingredeints together. It will be a runny mixture. Line cup cake tray with cups and fill each two thirds full. Bake for 15 - 17 minutes at 160 degrees celcius. Let it cool once done. I then decided to coat them in white chocolate frosting I purchased at the baking store. The best thing about instant frosting is to add water to it and beat. 300 grams frosting requires 100ml of water. It becomes a lovely smooth consistency after around 5 minutes of beating. I added into a piping bag with a rose making nozel. I decorated with plastic icing flowers I had made previously.

Dreamy Vanilla & Decadent Ganache I had to let my guys at the office know that I have a new found excitement in my life of making cup cakes and sure as thought, they held me to allowing them a taste. So I decided to make them the yummiest dreamy looking cup cakes. I used the basic vanilla cup cake recipe and made two batches. I added cocoa powder to one batch to turn them into chocolate cakes. Obviously the rule is if you are going to add another dry ingredient to the recipe then you need to use less of an existing dry ingredient. So I used around half a cup of cocoa powder to give the batter a rich chocolate look and decreased the cake flour by the same amount. That way I did not compromise on ensuring the cakes bake well and come out moist. The next step was to icing them.
